Q1. The difference between a discount of $ 25\% $ and two successive discounts of $ 15\% $ and $ 20\% $ on a certain bill was ₹28. Find the amount of the bill.

एक निश्चित बिल पर $ 25\% $ की छूट और $ 15\% $ तथा $ 20\% $ की दो क्रमिक छूटों के बीच का अंतर ₹28 था। बिल की राशि ज्ञात कीजिए।

Solution

Successive discounts of $ 15\% $ and $ 20\% = (15 + 20 - \frac{15 \times 20}{100})\% = 32\% $. Difference $ = 32\% - 25\% = 7\% $. Let bill amount be $ x $. $ 7\% $ of $ x = 28 \Rightarrow x = \frac{28}{0.07} = 400 $.
